8th Annual Heritage Day Sunday July 2, Noon - 3pm
Thank you one and all for helping to make Heritage Day a great success once again!
We wish to extend a special note of thanks and appreciation to the following sponsors of the 8th Annual Heritage Day Celebration:
Tom Foster and Dinah Seiver
Catherine and Amal Chaudhuri
Richard and Eleanor Leslie
Ruth and Reg Tuthill
We also thank our Heritage Day Committee Co-Chairs, Catherine Chaudhuri and Sarah Olmstead, and their wonderful team, including Sarah Latham, Mimi Fahs, Jim Latham, Ellen Zimmerman, Linda Sabatino, Sebastian Heath, Kevin Aglum, Karen Haley, and Harold House.
Many thanks also to the Reverend Doctor Ann Van Cleef of the Orient Congregational Church, who gave the invocation, Franklin Mastrangelo, who say "God Bless America", Bagpiper George Cohen, the Mudflats, and our readers of the Declaration of Independence: Scott Russell, Town of Southold Supervisor, Thomas Haley, John Holzapfel, Nate Stevenson, Ella Meredith-Jones, Billy Hands, and Al Krupski, Suffolk County Legislator. We greatly appreciate Scott Russell and Al Krupski for taking time out of their busy schedules to come visit us in Oysterponds.
Last but not least, thank you to all of our volunteers and participants who made today possible, including the Police Officers who assisted with traffic control for the parade and the Orient Fire Department for their assistance.
Friends and neighbors all come together for a home-grown celebration of local history and culture. The community parades down Village Lane in Orient after gathering on Oysterponds Lane at 11:30 - decorated bicycles, vintage vehicles and well-appointed pets on leashes are in abundance! We march to the Old Point Schoolhouse to read the Declaration of Independence, then head over to Poquatuck Park for a picnic, games and local music. We can't think of a day that brings more smiles and warm hearts.
