| Village House Capital
Campaign |
|
In 1944, in the midst of
the Second World War, citizens of Orient and East Marion
committed themselves to the preservation of the history
of their community by creating the Oysterponds
Historical Society. Virtually every member of the
community contributed to a fund to purchase the first
Society building, Village House.

As a result we have been left with a
wonderful inheritance that carries enormous
responsibility because the maintenance of 18th- and 19th-century buildings comes with a 21st century expense.
Village House is
in need of immediate structural repairs if its integrity
is to be preserved.
Further delay of essential work will only increase the
cost and indeed jeopardize the integrity of these
historic structures.
It’s our turn. OHS is undertaking a major
fundraising effort entitled “Saving the Past for the
Future.” Our goal is to raise $500,000 to accomplish the
restoration, preservation and conservation of Village
House. More than 60 years ago, the generosity of a
community and its love of Oysterponds inspired this
Society to preserve its history. Once again, we ask this
community for its financial support and spirit to
continue the legacy. Please join us in our community
endeavor to Save the Past for the Future.
