Built in 1891, the Hallock building served as a cookhouse and dormitory
for workers on the large Hallock Farm in Orient. The building housed a
kitchen, pantry, and dining room on the first floor and a dormitory on
the second. It was acquired by OHS and moved to its present site in
1960. The structure was restored and now contains the Donald H. Boerum
Research Library and serves as an archival research center. They are
both open to the public by appointment.
